Rural Health Group is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller. This position is located in our Finance Office in Roanoke Rapids, NC. 

The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller in all accounting-related activities. This includes preparing financial statements, managing journal entries, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, reviewing accounting information for accuracy, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and regulations. The position is a key support role in maintaining the company's financial health and accuracy. 


Job Duties

  • Financial Reporting:
    Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. This includes balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. 
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    Assist in developing and managing budgets, including creating financial forecasts and analyzing variances against the budget. 
  • Grant Management:
    Assists with the accounting and financial aspects of grant funds, ensuring proper tracking, reporting, and compliance with grant guidelines.
  • Accounting Operations:
    Manage daily accounting tasks like journal entries, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. 
  • Internal Controls:
    Help establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy. 
  • Audit Preparation:
    Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors. 
  • Compliance:
    Monitor compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and tax laws. 
  • Analysis and Reporting:
    Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights to management. 
  • Policy Development:
    Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. 
  • Team Management:
    Serve as back-up supervisor when Controller is absent for other accounting staff.
  • Financial Reporting:
    Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Requirements 

  • BS in Accounting from an accredited college
  • 10+ years accounting experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Excel and ability to type
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced and potentially stressful environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective, professional relationships with co-workers, managers and others
